ELEVATING DESIGN TO THE NEXT LEVEL….LITERALLY!!!

The very first time I met my client, in addition to all her various projects, she mentioned she had always wanted a small chandelier for her elevator; a “little surprise” when guests came to visit. The wheels starting turning but I filed it away until I had completed a few rooms for her and truly understood her likes and style. One day I said,”remember when you told me you wanted a chandelier for your elevator? Well, it’s a great idea… but, why stop there?!” I then proceeded to explain my vision in vivid detail. After I was done she thought for a few moments, then a big smile spread  across her face and I heard the 3 words I was waiting for…”LET’S DO IT!”  The major challenge was the size of the space-a 3’x3’ square, that was only 7 feet high.  It needed to be functional, meaningful, but most of all FUN!

Knowing she loved France, (she would actually be spending the entire winter there) I presented a chic design with a distinct Parisian flavor. Her favorite color, turquoise, would be the anchor shade in the elegant wallpaper carried through in the area rug, and contrasted with dramatic metallic gold walls and ceiling as the backdrop for the sparkling crystal flush mount chandelier, and gilded candle sconces. The Paris Metro sign subtly ties in “transportation” and complements the black frame of the curved-back Butler vanity chair which was reupholstered in a plush faux fur and accentuated with stylish pillows in vibrant peacock plumes, crisp apple green, and fashionable zebra throw. The entire space is pulled together by the “piece de resistance” – affable Francois the butler, serving up a welcoming glass of chilled champagne so guests can sit, sip, and thoroughly enjoy their ride up to the main floor.
